Drinking Less and Living More: How Sober Curiosity Will Transform Your Life

This is an invitation…

I encourage people to look at sober curiosity, whatever amount of time you commit to it, as an invitation. It’s an opportunity to spend quality time with yourself, the longest and most important relationship we will have in this lifetime. Get curious about what you actually want and what you want to express.

I don’t drink anymore and every single aspect of my life is better for it.

If someone had told me that I’d be stepping into 2025 nearly five years sober I would have laughed them out of the room.

After all, wasn’t alcohol the gatekeeper of everything fun, relaxing, and cool?
Didn’t I need it to tap into my creativity or cope with a life of stress and hustle?

I may have believed these sentiments to be true in early 202, but my perspective has been permanently shifted.

From accomplishing big goals to a deeper connection to the world around us, we gain so much more than we give up when we choose to ditch the booze.

Authenticity and deep connection

I hear a lot from people who are worried about feeling lonely or bored if they decide to stop drinking. There’s the very real fear that we will no longer receive the social invites or get the Friday night dinner calls that we enjoyed through the blurry lens of cocktails and vino.

We worry about being lonely, but loneliness is really just disconnection, mostly from ourselves.

Alcohol was never connecting us, it was only softening out our edges, presenting a filtered version of our unique individuality. Sober curiosity is an opportunity to make new connections, ones that elevate and inspire us, not impair us.

The laws of attraction

I have come to see the alcohol-free life as an invitation to the universe to send its best. So much of life is about the energy we attract into our orbit. Creativity is a positive frequency, a soul frequency.

A loud and clear, “I’m ready.”

There is a powerful shift that happens when we make that choice to show up in life, take the blinders off, and jump into the arena.

One of my favorite books is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. My favorite quote from the book is this:

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”

I believe this to be true. I think that like energy attracts like energy. The power that attaches itself to a person determined to live a more authentic and positive life cannot be overstated.

You can do it!

No matter what your relationship with alcohol has been in the past or what it looks like now, you can make a change.

It doesn’t require a label or a set of rules, it can be as unique and extraordinary as you are.
You just might find that there’s a whole new level of life waiting for you to tap into. I think that’s just about the coolest thing a person can do.
